How to Host a Token-Gated Meetup (Step-by-Step)

Hosting a token-gated meetup takes about 15 minutes end-to-end. This guide walks through gate rules, the RSVP flow, and check-in.

Step 1: Create an event

Sign in at IRLEvents, click Create Event, and fill in title, date, time, location, and image. Add a description that names the community — search engines and holders both scan for it.

Step 2: Add gate rules

Under "Gates," add one or more requirements. For an NFT community, that's usually the contract address and standard (ERC-721 for most PFPs, ERC-1155 for editions, SPL-NFT for Solana). Set minimum balance to 1 for most cases.

Step 3: Add a POAP or bonus gate (optional)

Attach a POAP claim link so attendees who show up walk away with an on-chain badge — great for building repeat attendance.

Step 4: Share the RSVP link

Post the event URL in your Discord, Twitter, or newsletter. Holders click, connect a wallet, sign a message, and get a QR check-in code.

Step 5: Check in at the door

Use the built-in QR scanner (or hand off to a co-host) to check in guests. Tokens are locked to prevent double-use.
